Avan University

The University of Avan is built on the banks of the River Bree in Hoyt Park across from the seafaring town of Avan. Few boats now navigate the river that is tidal well beyond the town. Instead they use the nearby port with all its docks and wharves. Avan University is the only one in the country to have a Theosophy Department although the university authorities don't often boast of the fact. Founded by Mme Blavatsky in a building of her design, the Department is situated on an island in the River Bree joined to the rest of the university by a small bridge. Professor Rafter has been head of the Department for a number of years. Rumour has it that his abilities as a shaman held him in good stead in the competition with two other candidates for the post.
